WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO WITH ALL THIS FUTURE
acrylics on canvas with paper paintings inserts - 2025
Originated from the tube drawing, where I was doing observational research - picking elements that could tell me something about an individual, imagining people’s inner worlds. The past and the future.
While working on canvas, the process itself became as valuable as the outcome. I started understanding my “why” behind it. Inevitably, glimpses of the process became a part of the displayed work.
The raw elements combine with more realistic approach - dividing storylines and memories. Mine and external - imaginative or someone else’s? Shattered pieces reassembled.
Memories that might be core ones. Like the blue insert: my godmother reading to her grandson, born under russian occupation in March 2022. It might not be his core memory, but it certainly is mine. Or the tube scene I’ve witnessed with dad asking his son: “if you are going to hold all three cars in your hands, how are WE going to hold hands then?”
There is something so simple in that, so innocent, glimpses into human values, hope. Hope for these memories to continue reappearing.
Depiction of the past with contemporary in correlation and constant movement. The past and present in constant internal dialogue.
