PRESENCE OF ABSENCE
acrylics on a found wooden board / 2024
An experiment with simplified forms and symbols, suggesting a focus on capturing the essence of the human form rather than precise detail. Arranged in a staggered formation to draw the eye across the panel, creating a sense of rhythm and movement by the use of overlapping forms and negative space.
The space is not merely empty but carries the suggestion of something beyond the visible, where the potential for presence exists. The interplay between the visible and the implied.
Using a chair as a symbol, as a hint - a metaphor for the human experience, where we are constantly coming and going, leaving behind traces of our presence. Evocation of Memory. Using distortion as a visual for the disruption of normalcy or the unsettling nature of absence.
Blurring of boundaries between presence and non- presence.
